Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe met with President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. of the Republic of Palau, who visited Japan in this commemorable year, the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Abe discussed cooperation for the realization of the "free and open Indo-Pacific" including the area of maritime security. At the signing ceremony that followed, he promised grant aid for the provision of motorboats and floating markers as part of Japanese assistance towards the fields of maritime security and fishery.
