Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from 19 maritime security practitioners from Asian countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Japan) who graduated from the Maritime Safety and Security Policy Program, which is a collaboration between the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, the Japan Coast Guard, and the Japan Coast Guard Academy. Prime Minister Abe discussed the "extreme importance to maritime nations of protecting people from tsunamis and other disasters and also of maintaining the safety of the seas" and expressed his expectations for the students to be active in their home countries in maintaining the principles of the rule of law and free, open maritime order.
