Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, during which they exchanged opinions, focusing on North Korea. The two leaders agreed that they would continue to exert maximum pressure on North Korea for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and emphasized the importance of close coordination between Japan, the United States and South Korea to achieve full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and other goals.
