Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their discussions led to an agreement to send a public-private fact-finding mission to study joint economic activities on the four northern islands, and on the use of air travel by former residents of the islands wishing to visit graves. The two heads of state also had a frank discussion on many of the issues confronting the world, including the increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and the situation in Syria.
