The Japanese delegation, led by Chef de Mission Seiko Hashimoto (Chairperson, LDP's General Assembly of Party Members of the House of Councillors), captured 41 medals at the Rio Olympics. While visiting Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe praised the participants, saying, "I admire all of the athletes who represented Japan on such a grand stage," promising that "next time, it will be our turn to inspire the world" as he conveyed his ambitions for the Tokyo games in 2020.
