The 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) was held from August 28 to 30 to discuss economic cooperation between Japan and African countries. A record total of 42 African heads of state attended, together with UN Secretary General António Guterres. In his keynote address, Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe noted that private-sector investment from Japan had reached $20 billion over a period of three years and expressed his commitment to further expansion, saying, "The government of Japan will do everything it can to see that new records continue to be set."
