During his meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump, Prime Minister and LDP President Abe received strong support for resolution of the abduction issue, one of the priority tasks for the government. Later, as he joined the president in a meeting with the families of the abductees, Prime Minister Abe described the great diplomatic efforts that the president has given the issue, praising him for "bringing up the abduction issue at the U.S.-North Korea Summit Meeting in Hanoi and communicating my thoughts to Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea."
