Japan has great expectations for Multilingual Speech Translation Systems, devices that allow foreign tourists to overcome the language barrier and communicate in their own languages, particularly for upcoming events such as next year's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. At the exhibition, hosted by the LDP's Research Commission on Info-Communications Strategy (Chairperson: Shunichi Yamaguchi, member of the House of Representatives), Policy Research Council Chairperson Fumio Kishida and Research Commission Chairperson Yamaguchi listened to a presentation from members of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) about "VoiceTra," a voice translation application that supports 31 languages.
