Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe visited China in October and had constructive discussions with President Xi Jinping on a pathway for promoting a new stage of Japan-China relations. At the Japan-China summit in Buenos Aires, Mr. Abe brought up three issues of greatest concern to Japan: (1) import restrictions on Japanese food; (2) responding to ship-to-ship transfers and other acts by North Korea; and (3) the East China Sea. It was a friendly meeting in which both heads reconfirmed their view of the East China Sea as a "Sea of Peace, Cooperation and Friendship."
