Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe has shown willingness to hold a summit with Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, to seek a solution to the abduction problem. In addition, he worked closely with US President Donald Trump to coordinate positions on nuclear weapons and missile development before President Trump left for North Korea immediately after the G7 Summit. During his discussions with the president, Prime Minister Abe confirmed the topic to be raised with Chairman Kim at the summit as the abduction issue is the Abe government's top priority.
