Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai led a delegation of ten LDP-affiliated Diet members to Jakarta, Indonesia as special envoy for Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe. The group was in the city from January 18 to 20. The delegation attended the opening ceremony of a two-day event on January 19 and 20 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Japan-Indonesia diplomatic relations, and met President Joko Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, among Indonesian dignitaries. At the opening event in a plaza in downtown Jakarta, Secretary-General Nikai called for the further development of friendly relations between the two countries, saying "As we go forward, our two countries must continue to be friends who share a special connection of the heart, and we must work together to achieve a prosperous future for both."
