Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe met with Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, one of the key figures working to stabilize the Middle East. The two leaders discussed more active support for the activities of Japanese companies in Egypt, and Prime Minister Abe informed the president that a new yen loan of approximately 41.1 billion yen would be made available for Egypt's "Electricity Sector Rehabilitation and Improvement Project." They both acknowledged "education and human resources development" as "the foundations of nation-building," and Prime Minister Abe indicated his intent to cooperate in a plan to double the number of Egyptian students and trainees coming to Japan, in preparation for the introduction of Japanese-style education in Egypt.
