Secretary-General Tanigaki: “Continued Efforts to Ensure the Understanding of the People”

After the plenary session of the House of Representatives, Secretary-General Sadakazu Tanigaki took questions from the press on the passage of the legislation for peace and security. His comments are summarized below:

This is an extremely important legislation for protecting Japan's peace and deterring war. It is unfortunate that the DPJ and other opposition parties walked out at the end of the session and failed to clearly state whether they supported or rejected the legislation. Nonetheless, all of the parties expressed their thoughts during the debates, and we were able to bring the deliberations in the House of Representatives to a close.

The most important thing is that we still have deliberations in the House of Councillors, and the government needs to be creative and do everything possible to ensure that the Japanese people fully understand the implications of the bills. There is also much more that we, as the ruling parties must do.
