It is a great sorrow for Japan that two Japanese nationals became victims of terrorism. Japan has a responsibility to the international community as it fights terrorism, and will discharge this responsibility in the form of humanitarian aid.
We are in the midst of the "most drastic reforms since the end of World War II" in regards to the economy, the social security system, foreign relations, and security. These are necessary and unavoidable reforms, and I want to move confidently down this path together with the Japanese people.
We will strengthen agriculture with the first reforms of the Agricultural Cooperatives in 60 years. Bold regulatory reform will improve productivity and international competitiveness in this area.
The "three arrows" of economic policies that we have pursued doggedly over the past two years are steadily generating results. We will bring the warm winds of economic recovery to every corner of the country and simultaneously achieve the three goals of economic revitalization, fiscal rebuilding, and social security reform.
Since the end of WWII, Japan has made substantial contributions to world peace and prosperity. We must raise the flag of "proactive contributions to peace" even higher and achieve greater trust within the international community. I want this year to be a fitting year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.
We will continue with the nationwide discussion regarding constitutional revision.
Japan is beginning to grow once again and is regaining confidence in its own ability to shine on the center stage of the world. It is time for a new start and renewed conviction.
