In preparation for "Kariyushi-wear Day" on June 1, the Party's Headquarter held an "Okinawa Exhibit" on May 28, offering Kariyushi-wear and other Okinawa products for view and sale.
This marks the sixth year of the exhibit.
In attendance at the opening ceremony were Secretary-General Shigeru Ishiba, Executive Acting Secretary-General Hiroyuki Hosoda (Chairperson, Federation of LDP Churaumi Diet Members), Public Relations Headquarters Chairperson Yuriko Koike (Chairperson, Society for the Global Promotion of Kariyushi-wear), and Okinawan Diet members. "There will come a time when Okinawa leads Japan, "Secretary-General Ishiba said."We need to work together with our colleagues in Okinawa to bring out Okinawa's latent potential."
"Kariyushi-wear" is lightweight apparel produced in Okinawa with designs evocative of the islands, and has earned a position as a common summer attire in Okinawa. This year marks the tenth anniversary of "Cool Biz," and Kariyushi-wear has gained steady prominence during that process. In 2013, a record 45,200 garments were produced.
The year 2014 also featured an introduction to the Okinawa's Kerama Islands, which were designated a national park on March 5.
Many Diet and staff members among others participated in the event, bringing home Okinawan delicacies and other products.
