On February 26, LDP Secretary-General Shigeru Ishiba and International Bureau Director-General Tatsuya Ito held a discussion session for 41 faculty members and students from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School) at the National University of Singapore who were visiting on a "Japan Study Trip."
Secretary-General Ishiba spoke on the topic of "Japan in a global context," and touched on politics, the economy, foreign relations, and security. This was followed by a frank and lively question-and-answer session in which students asked about Japan-ASEAN relations, Japan-China relations, security policy, falling birth rates, aging demographics, and Japanese investment in and assistance to Africa.
The LKY School is a graduate school for the training of the next generation of leaders in Asia that attracts students from all across Asia. Upon graduation, these students are expected to become the leaders who will move Asia forward.
This is the School's fourth tour to Japan and its first visit to Party Headquarters. The Party looks forward to having regular interactions with this delegation from the School and building long-term relationships. Forging ties with the next generation of international leaders is a key component of the Party's outreach efforts and will contribute to Japanese foreign relations and security.
