On March 3 and 4, President Tanigaki visited the three disaster-hit prefectures of Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prior to the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake which devastated Japan on March 11, 2011 to inspect the reconstruction efforts in the regions. After President Tanigaki checked the situation thoroughly, he commented that the reconstruction had made very slow progress in the past year. At the end of the inspection, Tanigaki announced an LDP proposal entitled "10 acceleration measures for the reconstruction" at a press conference in Sendai city. Among other ideas, the LDP pledged to pressure the government to remove the ceiling on funding available for reconstruction works. As the leading opposition party, the LDP also pledged that each department of the Party would cooperate with the government to further efforts toward the full-reconstruction. |
