LDP President Sadakazu Tanigaki appointed new officers to the board following the expiration of the one-year terms of the current officers on September 30. He appointed Ryu Shionoya, former Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as chairman of the General Council, and Toshimitsu Motegi, chairman of the Public Relations Headquarters, as chairman of the Policy Research Council. Vice President Oshima and Secretary General Ishihara were reappointed. Upon reappointment, Secretary General Ishihara appointed Fumio Kishida, former Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Space Policy, as new Diet Affairs Committee Chairman. President Tanigaki explained that the reshuffle aimed to reinvigorate the party organization which, he hoped, would lead to greater trust by Japanese citizens and international partners, and eventual return to government by the LDP. He said the lineup would help the Party drive the Democratic Party of Japan to dissolve the Diet and call a general election. The followings are new lineup:
